Abington Health, Holy Redeemer End Talks on Merger
Both sides have chosen to end discussions regarding a possible merger.
The following joint statement was released this afternoon:
Abington Health and Holy Redeemer Health System have decided to end discussions regarding a potential partnership to create a larger health system. Together we had a bold vision that we believe would have served our community well. While we are disappointed, we believe this decision is in the best interest of both organizations. Abington Health and Holy Redeemer Health System will continue to seek opportunities to enhance the health of the communities we serve.

I am glad that they have made the right decision for our community. It took a facebook page, one woman's perserverance and determination to mobilize us, thanks Rita Poley!

This is so Too bad from a business perspective. But in the long run it is better for Holy Redeemer who won't be under pressure to compromise ethics---and this would surely happen.

From what I heard there was a threat of a walk out by the abotionist doctors at Abington. When this proposal first came up I thought it was doomed because one or the other would have to give up some real moral and ethical standards. It does not surprise me that the abortionist who would be losing a large amount of income put a stop to it. In the long run HR current management would have compromised all it's morals for the sake of looking "progressive" to a certain section of society.

6,000 names from facebook have no regard for innocent lives. Hitler must be so proud of you, Rita Foley. (Alexis is too) You are a leader in your own right. A leader against life.

The only Hitlers I see are those who support this misogynistic merger. I am so glad it got defeated.
Those who support this merger have no regard for the innocent women and girls who are murdered by anti-choice beliefs and agendas daily since 1776.

The truly innocent women and girls murdered far out number those you count as innocent. Being anti abortion is not being anti choice. Choice comes long before an abortion. Abortion is only an acknowledgment of no responsibility. The price of that acknowledgment has been a holocost that only a Hitlerite could appreciate. The mental toll that it has taken on victims of an abortionist has only lately been addressed. Eventually this evil will be erased as the awareness grows and it will close the ugliest chapter in this nation's history at least since slavery.

I can't believe that the standard for morality can be set by the Catholic church. It certainly did not uphold any moral standards when dealing with the rape and molestation of children by their clergy and then covered up by the Catholic all male heirarchy. America is compilation of many religious belief systems. One belief system is not more superior than the other. We as American need to uphold everyone right to a decision that concerns their body. I am sure that the Catholic heirarchy feel that they reign supreme on moral issues. However, history does not support that. As to the bloggers and tweeters who compare Pro Choice to Hitler's hollocust, I would ask them to define the sanctioned molestation and rape of children at the hands of Catholic priests and the protection of these villians by the Catholic heirarchy.

Agreed, "No Thank You". The modern clergy is the last place I look to for finding morality in life, unfortunately.
@"Liberty 1": Really? Do we have to take it to "Hitler"?
The clear fact is that people sometimes have to make hard choices, and needing a facility near them that can help them through that rough choice is necessary. Not everyone has privilege of choices - even giving a baby up for adoption - and they need to be helped too. THAT'S humane.
As much as it would've made my life a little easier having these two hospitals merge, I'm very glad that no one hospital had to compromise on their beliefs, and that women in need still have a choice that makes a hard time a little easier for them.
Please try to show some sensitivity, "Liberty 1".

Amy - I mentioned Hitler only in response to an earlier post not that the comparisons are incorrect. I am a very compassionate person but I do not let my compassion blind me from what is right. You paint the typical abortion seeker as some poor misguided girl or a girl who was raped etc. etc. In fact it is a woman who does not use contraception or insist on the minimum use by her male counterpart. A pregnency would be a hardship in a career, relationship or just life. Many times abortion is just used AS the contraceptive. The choice is made at time of conception, if properly prepared - great however to kill a baby because a moment of passion created an inconvenience is w r o n g. The Catholic Church is right on this issue and I am glad they have taken the lead.

No Thank You - Are we talkiing abortion right? This nation IS a compilation of religious beliefs I agree. Is there a religion out there that condones the killing of innocents? Well, I can think of one but that is another topic. The Catholic Church has taken the lead in the abortion fight but they are not alone. I do believe that their stance early on with contraception was partly responsible for some abortions but that does not mean that the Church is wrong. The abortion practice IS very much Hitlerite. We have got it down to a science and even have been able to push the limits to where everything but the babies hair is out of the womb before it is killed. It is an evil practice no different then the death camps were and one day we will be free of that particular evil. I will gladly discuss the decline of the RCC due to their cowardly treatment of child molesters should you wish.....but to disregard a valid point because of a different sin is not only silly it is uneducated.

Subject: Jewish view on Catholics
Life isn't tied with a bow, it's still a gift. Jewish Sam Miller on Catholics
Excerpts of an article written by non-Catholic Sam Miller - a prominent Cleveland Jewish businessman:
Let me give you some figures that Catholics should know and remember. For example, 12% of the 300 Protestant clergy surveyed admitted to sexual intercourse with a parishioner; 38% acknowledged other inappropriate sexual contact in a study by the United Methodist Church ,
41.8% of clergy women reported unwanted sexual behavior; 17% of laywomen have been sexually harassed.
Meanwhile, 1.7% of the Catholic clergy has been found guilty of pedophilia. 10% of the Protestant ministers have been found guilty of pedophilia. This is not a Catholic Problem.
A study of American priests showed that most are happy in the priesthood and find it even better than they had expected, and that most, if given the choice, would choose to be priests again in face of all this obnoxious PR the church has been receiving.
The Catholic Church is bleeding from self-inflicted wounds. The agony that Catholics have felt and suffered is not necessarily the fault of the Church. You have been hurt by a small number of wayward priests that have probably been totally weeded out by now.
