Dad Charged with Third-Degree Murder in Child's Death
Edward Doyle, 28, was arrested Sunday on endangering the welfare of a child charge, but court officials upgraded that to a third-degree murder charge Tuesday.
The Upper Moreland man accused of killing his infant daughter was charged this morning with third-degree murder.
Edward Doyle, of the 2500 block of Horsham Road, was arrested on child endangerment Sunday, but court officials upgraded the incident to a murder charge after the autopsy of Makayla Doyle was completed on Monday.
Doctor Isidore Mihalakis, a forensic pathologist, performed an autopsy on Makayla and found multiple broken ribs, skull fractures and injuries to her nose consistent with pinching the nasal airway, according to a press release.
Doyle told police he was carrying his two-month old daughter after a night of drinking when he tripped and fell on top of the infant.
Mihalakis watched a video in which Doyle demonstrated how he fell while holding Makayla, but the doctor said the demonstration was inconsistent with the injuries sustained to Makayla’s skull. Mihalakis ruled the death a homicide.
At a press conference Tuesday, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Upper Moreland Police Chief Alex Levy announced they will charge Doyle with with third-degree murder, endangering the Welfare of children and unsworn falsification to authorities.
That last charge comes from the inconsistencies in Doyle's story to police and the autopsy results. Doyle, who stands 6-foot-1-inch and weighs 275 pounds, told police he should not have been caring for his daughter “because [he had] drank too drunk.”
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 5 at 10 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Paul N. Leo in Hatboro.

It TRULY amazes me that NOTHING is being said about child endangerment charges on the mother AND if the 15mos old has been placed in RESPONSIBLE hands of other family members??? WTH!!

It amazes me how some people are asking--How can you judge him when you don't even know him? Are you kidding me? This poor baby did not die by accident....To me I don't need to know you to judge you on this..And yes the Mom keeps getting left out...She should be charged with child endangerment at least! To the rest of the family of this innocent little baby--My heart breaks for you with that is going on and my prayers are with you.

I met Ed Doyle, I know family members who are in shock but what had happened. I am in disbelief to why his wife would be leaving the home knowing Ed was so intoxicated to leave him alone with the e children at #:30 am with a baby in a swing at that time in the morning with their parents partying ....I really need to know why we do not hear anything about mom who walked out to party at a male neighbor's apartment, She is just as responsible for this innocent child's death. My prayer's are with this innocent child.

For all you assholes saying he is a good father and we shouldn't judge him. Fuck you for defending him. He is a baby killer how can you defend a baby killer. Its a shame that all of you believe everything you hear. Put yourself in this situation people are grieving and your judging. Makayla is not gossip or a situation she was and is child that is loved very much. So take a look at yourselves for making her any less than that
