Add Argentina to Your List
Alta Vista's Torrontes Premium 2008 is a little bit of Spain transported to Argentinia.
A wine drinker will always return to the grape variety or region they have tried, tested and enjoyed. Often, the thickness of their wallets will guide them, perhaps foolishly, to a particular label.
But please don’t forget about Argentina!
The white Torrontes grape, widely grown in northwest Spain is very heavily planted in Argentina. Alta Vista, a winery in the northern Argentina region of Salta, produces its Torrontes in the area of Cafayate, which has a micro-climate ideally suited to the grape variety – high altitude and excellent soil drainage.
The winery maintains the grapes’ character and the wine’s freshness by fermenting the juice in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks and by not introducing any oak aging into the equation.
Alta Vista Torrontes Premium 2008 (PLCB code 22973; $9.99) has a brief maceration on the skins. There is no malolactic fermentation and that allows the wine to develop rich and concentrated flavors. It has a yellow/green color and the fragrance is aromatic and floral. The taste is light, crisp and fresh with soft fruit flavors of peaches, lemon and honey.
