Construction Will Cause Shifts on Turnpike Near Willow Grove Exit

A Traffic Shift for Eastbound I-276 on the Turnpike is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 18, 2013

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission advises motorists traveling on Interstate 276 east from Ft. Washington (Exit #339) to be prepared for a new traffic pattern when exiting at the Willow Grove Interchange (Exit #343) before 6 a.m. Friday morning, January 18. Portable and permanent message signs have been activated to provide advance notice of the traffic shift and construction updates.

In preparation for the traffic shift, the contractor replacing the mainline bridge at milepost 342.7 established a single-lane pattern eastbound Thursday night at 7 p.m. between milepost 342-343.

Once the shift has occurred, before 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, motorists should then be prepared to exit to the right of the construction zone at milepost 342.3, approximately one-half mile prior to the existing interchange exit ramp. There
will be no changes to the existing travel lanes for motorists continuing eastbound past the construction zone.

How long will this construction take? If this was Japan, It would have been done in 2 months. They rebuilt miles of earthquake destroyed roads in weeks. Is it because of union labor?
