Do You Have an Issue with Weis Market Serving Alcohol?

Once it was approved that Weis Market will be able to serve beer and wine when it opens, many people voiced their opinions on the issue.

Earlier this month the Upper Moreland Board of Commissioners approved the liquor license for the new Weis Supermarket in the Marketplace at Huntingdon Valley Shopping Center.

Weis will take over for the previous tenant Pathmark, with the biggest difference being that it will serve beer and wine in its lunch café.

Upper Moreland Commissioners Joseph Lavalle and Kevin Spearing voted against it, but it was ultimately approved by way of vote.

The announcement sparked numerous comments and conversations among residents on Patch and through Social Media. Customers are allowed to carry out up to 192-fluid ounces, or the equivalent to two 6-packs. Some people like the idea of having a two-drink maximum and a place to purchase to alcohol, while others feel it will create problems.

So how do you feel about the ability to purchase and consume alcohol in a supermarket? Good or bad idea?

The store is expected to open sometime during the summer into the fall.

I don't mind the carry-out it's the drinking while grocery shopping I disapprove of. I also hate the idea of someone having drinks then getting into their car and driving through a grocery store parking lot. I can just see people driving electric carts into displays, people, shelves. I also look forward to standing in line behind an obnoxious drunk. It's pretty bad if you can't go grocery shopping without having to have alcohol.

Then lets close all the bars stop wine tasting clubs. I don't know about others but I like to get out of stores as fast as possible I don't see myself going there for 2 beers.

What makes anyone feel you can drink WHILE shopping? It says it will be served in the cafe!! I'm pretty sure you won't be able to walk around the store with it. If so my only concern there would be, someone of age buying a glass and giving it to someone underage in an aisle. But then again slipping drinks to underaged happens all over if they WANT it. I'm pretty sure WEIS is aware of that and will only allow the 2drink max while in their cafe!! IM FOR IT since I'm a responsible adult
