Giant Supports Troops with $450,000 Donation

Throughout the month of May, Giant collected donations from customers to benefit the USO or the Wounded Warriors Project.

In a show of support for the men and women who are bravely serving in
the Armed Forces, customers at GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN’S Food Markets
generously donated $450,423 through the stores’ annual Support Our Troops
campaign. This year’s in-store fundraiser benefited regional USOs throughout the company’s operating area and the Wounded Warriors Project.

“On behalf of our regional USO partners and the Wounded Warriors Project, thank you to all of our customers and associates for their overwhelming support in helping to keep our nation’s heroes stay connected to their families and assisting those who were injured overcome obstacles,” said Rick Herring, president.

From May 6 through May 19, customers were invited to donate $1 at the checkout toward the USO or the Wounded Warriors Project. Regional USOs are dedicated to programs that build morale and keep soldiers connected to their families. The Wounded Warriors Project enlists the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service members, helps severely injured men and women aid and assist each other, and provides unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

Since the inception of Support Our Troops in 2005, GIANT and MARTIN’S customers have donated over $1.8 million. In addition to financial support, GIANT and MARTIN’S also reach out several times a year to the family members of associates who are serving overseas by sending care packages of toiletries, sweets, beverage mixes, soups and microwaveable meals.

Wounded Warrior Directory

Support Wounded Warrior Businesses. I'm commenting on behalf of wounded warriors in an effort to help promote and support service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Many wounded warriors are coming home, getting out of the military and jobs are very limited. Therefore many have decided to start their own businesses in an attempt to survive and support their families. In an effort to help, we have created the Wounded Warrior Directory, the one and only directory dedicated solely to supporting service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses at http://www.VeteransDirectory.com. Great place to find teaming partners or hire a veteran sub contractor. Please help us let others know about these businesses and this cause. Thank you!
