Patch told you about this at the beginning of the month, but here’s your last reminder: stamp prices go up on Sunday.
The price to mail a first-class letter up to 1 oz through the U.S. Postal Service will go up a penny from 45 cents to 46 cents.
If you’re using a forever stamp, then you are fine before or after the price increase. But, if you’re buying a Forever stamp, it will cost you 45 cents on Saturday and 46 cents on Sunday, so now’s the time to stock up.
If you can't get to the post office to buy stamps, many grocery stores also carry them. You usually have to ask the clerk checking you out for the stamps.
Here are the highlights of the mailing costs effective January 27 from the Post Office:
- Letters (1oz.) — 1-cent increase to 46 cents
- Letters additional ounces — unchanged at 20 cents
- Letters to all international destinations (1oz.) — $1.10
- Postcards — 1-cent increase to 33 cents
New domestic retail pricing for Priority Mail Flat Rate products include:
- Small box — $5.80
- Medium box — $12.35
- Large box — $16.85
- Large APO/FPO box — $14.85
- Regular envelope — $5.60
- Legal envelope — $5.75
- Padded envelope — $5.95
Have you stocked up on forever stamps? Do you feel 46 cents is too much to pay to mail a letter? Do you send many letters through the postal service anymore? Share your thoughts in the comments area below.

Who cares about stamps; who uses them? The post office is pretty close to defunct isn't it?

I use the post office every day for business. I is still a great value. I send undress of packages a wek via priority mail because I is faster an cheaper compared to ups or FedEx.

I still mail, not everything is electronic. The post office came through at Christmas this year when Fed Ex and UPS couldn't deliver on time and would charge over $70 to process a package. Actually, they successfully deliver all my packages. Support the USPS, because if it is gone, then the loss would be noticed.

Most of my personal business, i.e., bill paying etc., is conducted electronically. My business however is done via USPS, primarily mailing checks and billings. Correspondence is usually done via internet as it is faster and cheaper.

Upper Moreland Sewer Authority is still acting like we are in the 50's and won't allow online bill payment or even a phone payment. Either the bill is paid at the plant (P-U) or it needs to be mailed. If I didn't have this albatross I'd never need another stamp.

Samantha, does your bank do automatic check payments? We have it set up with ours, I go on to the bank's website and fill in the amount due and they pay it right to UMHJSA for us. No more stamps!

I guess no-one sends Christmas or birthday cards.
