PA Has More Taxpayers Than the National Average
ROMNEY: The Tax Foundation’s research indicates that he may be right about more than 40 percent of Americans having no tax liability.
By Melissa Daniels | PA Independent
HARRISBURG — To put it mildly, Mitt Romney’s secretly recorded statements discussing 47 percent of Americans were filled with some gross exaggerations.
But that 47 percent figure the Republican presidential candidate touted is fairly close to the truth, when it comes to how many Americans have no federal tax liability, according one study.
Nationally, 41 percent of federal income tax filers fell into that category in 2009, according to Washington, D.C.-based research group the Tax Foundation. That figure jumps to 50 percent when considering income earners who do not meet the minimum thresholds for filing a tax return: $9,500 for a single person, and $19,000 for a married couple.
In the Keystone State, the picture is a little different.
Around 32 percent of Pennsylvanian federal tax filers, or 1.9 million people, pay no federal income tax, according to the Tax Foundation.
The state ranks 33rd in order of most non-taxpayers to least, according to 2008 data. The top five states with the highest percentages of non-taxpayers were Mississippi, Georgia, Arkansas, New Mexico and Alabama.
Leaked videos from Mother Jones show Romney speaking at a private fundraiser about “47 percent of Americans” who depend heavily on government, whom he could never teach to “take personal responsibility and care for their lives,” and who will support President Barack Obama.
He closed the bombardment with: “These are people who pay no taxes.”
In 1990, the percentage of non-payers of all taxpayers was 21 percent, slightly more than half of what it is today. The Tax Foundation cites numerous tax cuts, tax credits and rebates as a main reason for an increased number of non-payers in recent years.

When did middle class people start believing Republicans had their best interest at heart? Republicans love that they've been able to fool the middle class for several elections through fear and ignorance. If you're not a millionaire or a moron why would you vote Republican? Do you know the Democrats have created twice as many jobs as Republicans since 1961? Twice as many. Obama is on track to getting us back to where we should be. Even Flip Romney is saying he needs 8 years to turn things around. And you tea-party nitwits who are hell bent on forcing your religion on the rest of us--God is not mentioned in the constitution until it's signed 'in the year of our lord.' Our founding fathers were Deists, not Christians. America was built on the ideals of removing religion from politics.
Lies? Obama may have disappointed you, so far on some issues. But it's not called lying when you don't do something you say you will. Lying is what Romney and Ryan are doing on every topic from healthcare to marathons. Romney is over 650 lies in 36 weeks. He and Lyin' Ryan are two smarmy frat boys who are trying to dupe you one more time. Don't let it happen.

Your ignorance is palpable:
Saved GM: Wrong! The government still owns 500 million shares of GM, 26 percent of the total. It needs to sell them for $53 a share to recover its $49.5 billion bailout. But the stock price is around $20 a share, and the Treasury now estimates that the government will lose more than $25 billion if and when it sells. How did that work out for you?
Obamacare: Nearly 6 million Americans will get hit by the penalty-tax provision of ObamaCare that forces individuals to buy insurance or pay Uncle Sam according to a Sept. 19, 2012 Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report. That's a 50 percent increase from the CBO's 2010 estimate – about 2 million more people.
and killing Bin Laden? Give me a break! Here's news for ya toots! Hero Navy SEALS killed Bin laden and they have nothing but disgust for your hero!

Oh, and JF, while we're playing this game, tell me the great Republican achievements of this century. I mean besides two wars and bankrupting my children's future. With the nation in shambles back in 2008, the Republican party set their sights on one thing; making sure Obama is a one term president. Not the economy, not jobs, but the downfall of the man voted in by the people of this nation.
Tell me Romney's plan for this nation. You can't because he doesn't have one.

JF--People like you really irritate me. Of course Obama didn’t personally kill Bin Laden but making that decision was as tough as what those Navy Seals did, because if the whole thing went horribly wrong and all those brave men were killed, people like you would bash and blame Obama. And as far as workers hating their boss because they get credit for things—gee, that’s never happened before.
I invested in GM because I believe waving a flag and saying we need to make this country great isn’t enough. Saving those jobs was the right thing to do and with time and more people putting their patriotism into action by investing in companies this country was built on will get us back on track.
This country needed a national healthcare plan. Funny how Romney thought it was a great idea and pushed for it in Massachusetts and is now calling himself the grandfather of Obamacare. Yes, it’s going to cost the taxpayers some money but who do you think was footing the bill for all those uninsured people when they needed medical attention? How many of your tax dollars were used to invade two countries that had nothing to do with 9/11 or WMD? But that doesn’t seem to bother you.
Jennifer Restwick
9:35 am on Saturday, September 22, 2012
JF--Your I-got-mine attitude is not what’s going to move us forward. But you’ll never see that because you think everybody had the same opportunity as you, and if you’re successful they should be too. Paul Ryan used social security to attend college and is now trying to take that very same method away from others. Rush Limbaugh sat on a couch for years collecting unemployment before coming up with the idea of tapping into the fear and ignorance of white America. There’s footage of Romney’s mother talking about how welfare made it possible for her and George to survive and get back on their feet!
Obama was spot on when he said you didn’t build that by yourself. A country works because of the success before it and around it. Whether you like it or not, we’re all in this together and that means reaching out to those who need help. We’re not in this mess because of the lazy poor. This country was raped by the greedy rich. And the one way that I am sorely disappointed by the current administration is that they didn’t seek out those mortgage bankers, tar and feather them and parade them up 5th avenue.
I’m finished here. You’ll never see the unfairness of rich America and how every successful person used the system in one form or another because they knew how. Yes, people also worked hard but someone or something gave them a leg up when they needed it. And everyone deserves that same opportunity.

I would venture to say that those residing in Islamic countries are very much like those in the few communist countries that are left - in that they do not know what freedom or liberty is and could not begin to understand it. The problem with muslims - you can be having a great conversation with them then they pull the cord or cut your head off. Mary/Liberty, Being a Democrat doesn't make someone a athesist. Politics should be about the economy and the concerns of ALL Americans, not just those who are Christians on Sunday and forget about it the rest of the week. Unlike the Republican party who only has concerns for pushing their religious beliefs on the rest of us. Sorry but abortion and gay marriage are not the concerns of the majority of Americans, It is JOBS, HOUSING,and UNEMPLOYMENT. I don't care if the next President is Purple with spots and worships a prestzel stick. If he can improve things, you shouldn't care either. Or do you only vote on political platforms?
Liberty 1
6:19 pm on Monday, September 24, 2012
Never said being a democrat makes you an atheist. BUT it seems to be a requirement to be one if you are a democrat office holder or spokesperson. Most democrats are Christians, it was the same California voters who voted Obama then voted down the proposed state amendment for gay marriage. They maintain their party affiliation for reasons unknown but to them and God. You are somewhat right about the main concern for most Americans. IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID! It is the democrats who go off their nut when you mention abortion or gay marriage. Those two groups compose most of that party's base and whenever they need a quick influx of cash they make an issue out of one of those two issues. The first six years of Bush were incredible economic times considering what he was facing. The last two were lousy mainly due to the democrat congress and the spending that went ballistic.
The political platforms are rarely even thought of by the general public but the platforms are very important as a map of where the party is heading and if you read the previous platforms you might be surprised how well forecasted the future of that party. Of course this would mean researching what was said etc. and the democrat party appears to believe that nothing is meant when it is spoken.

Jennifer, honey, I'll take every opportunity to link Jimmy Carter, this economy and President together that I can get. They fit all so neatly together. All we need is Barack in a cardigan and rocking chair!
BTW ... Speaking of silence, I'm still waiting for a thank you for all the Republican accomplishments I listed at your request back at 3:27 pm on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
But I'm sure you weren't actually looking for a response, were ya?.

Oh Jen how we missed you and your misguided name calling. A new week and more bitterness from you. You probably think your a big bully just like Sally and all your Occupy Wall Street friends. Rest assured Mary and I will be right here throwing your bully tactics right back at ya. So please continue you with the name calling and exposing yourself as the fraud you are!

Most importantly, the housing collapse, just as McCain was gaining traction in the election with Obama (hmmmm), has a long history, starting with Carter, enlarged by Clinton, QUESTIONED repeatedly by Bush (to no avail , his Democrat Congress would not cooperate), was caused by FORCED LOANS TO PEOPLE WHO COULD NOT AFFORD THEM!. This is liberalism, it "felt" good. Everyone deserves a house! Who cares if they have massive debt and a low-paying job and a poor track record of paying bills?
I know the liberals here won't understand all this, but it's true.
People talk about the good Clinton years -- you can thank the Republican Congress who got things done.
Liberalism really is a mental disorder, like Michael Savage says. So there's hardly any need for trying to explain or banging your own head on the wall. They will never get it. Maybe we should just pray for them.

Stop and think for a second, since you referred to prayer, was Jesus more like a liberal or a conservative? It amazes me that conservatives want God in government but behave polar opposite of what Jesus preached. How many of you pinheads who got in line to support Chick-Fila ever got in a line to help feed or shelter the homeless? Guess which Jesus would have done?

Jenny - Glad you asked! Jesus was a Libertarian! He preached what was good -warned what was evil and did not force anybody to follow him. He sure wasn't a liberal because they have to force everyone to follow their ways and conservatives are only a little more lenient.

Mike, I'm sorry but the civil rights movement and a few other accomplishments you listed weren't from this century. Although many republicans may have just began seeing minorities as equals in this century. Again, if you can't follow, please just keep quiet.

Honey, I don't get intimidated by political bullies, especially those who think a century long period has to end in a 0.
Hey, I have an idea! Why not give of the list Democrat accomplishments in this century?!? But remember now, it's only a 12-year century!

Hey Jen...in case you haven't noticed Mary, Ingrid, Mike and myself have taken you to the woodshed on the issues and all you do is to continue spewing your insults and bitterness..and if the posts on this board against you are any indication you will be even more bitter come November!

I am sure the liberals would be shocked to know the truth. It was the Republican Party who was behind the Civil Rights movement, not the Dems. It was Mitt Romney's father, not Obama's, who marched. Shocking right? The truth sometimes is.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Which arty? If you said Republican, you'd be RIGHT!
End of short lesson.

Good lord, your reading comprehension is awful. That wasn't the point. The point was it didn't happen in this century. So Robert Kennedy, a democrat, had nothing to do with the civil rights movement? You see what you want and pick out the facts that support your agenda--the Republican way!

In case all you obviously republicans can actually read GOD does not belong in politics. Kennedy stated that he could serve his constintuents regardless of his religious views. That's why Democrats don't bring God into it, because they represent EVERYONE, not just the religious fanatics who believe everyone should live by their religious views.

One article of many. Just look past modern "truths."
Only one Congressman was in the KKK -- yes, he was a Democrat.
Who are Thomas Sowell and Allen West? Two of my favorite, smart, brave black Americans, both Republican and conservative. What has the D party done for blacks other than keep them in poverty? Wake up, folks.

Hey Jen..is a coincidence that commenters from other articles that you have commented on suggest the same thing about you?
Jennifer: Are you an unhappy person Sweetie? When I'm cranky I read, Tuesdays With Morrie. Then I'm all better again.
All your smarmy comments are filled with arrogance and a know it all attitude. Time for a reality check. I know of a great little getaway you can take come November.

Nice try Pam...I'm just trying to have a laugh...You stated your opinion about God and politics which is fine but then you throw out insults as well...you can't bring yourself to have an intelligent disagreement with someone without insulting them. You assume that if someone is a God fearing person they are a fanatic and Republican. So enjoy your laughs with your friends and only join the conversation if you can avoid the insults. Thanks.

Good Lord, Mike. I did list them with a link. You really don't get how this works do you? Read. Think. Comment. It's bad enough your cohorts skip the middle step, you simply skip the first two. Tell you what folks, I'll see you back in here in November. Unfortunately no matter who wins, JF, Mary and Mike will still be clueless. But I have a feeling they're going to be quite bitter, also. Have a great fall, y'all.

You should stop drinking the bong water, dear. Funny to see you tell everybody to "read. think, comment" when all you do it replay the work of others.
Let's take a look at some of President Obama's 50 "accomplishments" ...
10. Toppled Moammar Gaddafi ... Does it really count when you're sitting in the back seat?
14. Kicked Banks Out of Federal Student Loan Program, Expanded Pell Grant Spending ... I'll have to remember that the Bank I'm paying for my son's student loan isn't really a Bank!
19. Began Asia “Pivot”: ... I actually laughed when I read that one.
35. Let Space Shuttle Die and Killed Planned Moon Mission ... Really, that's an accomplishment?!?
41. Avoided Scandal ... Where's "Brushed His Teeth Every Morning"???
46. Recognized the Dangers of Carbon Dioxide ... wow. what a visionary ... if this were the 1960s.
And there were about 20 "accomplishments" that entailed his signing a bill written, advocated, and ushered through Congress by OTHERS. He signs a bill he had little to do with, and that's an "accomplishment"?!? Many "accomplishments" listed were so small they would be considered "management decisions" by anyone not deperate to prove they did SOMETHING in four years.
Just too funny ...

You question those you disagree with, like many democrats try and do, by first making a nasty statement like republicans "raped this country". Then you proceed to ask me a question? Are you kidding me?
I will take a pass on getting into a discussion with a complete moron (no offense).

And we wonder why are kids get bullied! Come on people, the blame game gets old, get off your couches and make a differance, instead of complaining all the time!! With these comments, i wont be suprised if there are riots in the streets after a president is elected, either side! Working together is the ONLY solution, tearing apart is not!
