Resident to Attend Nation's First Institute for Deaf

Rochester Institute of Technology's National Technical Institute for the Deaf offers unparalleled support services for more than 1,300 students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

 

Tamika Chandler, of Willow Grove, has enrolled in Rochester Institute of Technology's National Technical Institute for the Deaf, the nation's first and largest technological college for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

She is a 2012 graduate of Abington Senior High School.

Rochester Institute of Technology is internationally recognized for academic leadership in business, computing, engineering, imaging science, liberal arts, sustainability, and fine and applied arts. In addition, the university offers unparalleled support services for more than 1,300 students who are deaf or hard of hearing. RIT enrolls nearly 18,000 full- and part-time students in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs, and its cooperative education program is one of the oldest and largest in the nation.

NTID, one of nine colleges of RIT, was established by Congress in 1965 to provide college opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students who were underemployed in technical fields. Visit: www.rit.edu/NTID.
