Willow Grove Chamber in the Business of Welcoming New Residents

The Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce Welcome Basket program promotes community spirit and local businesses.

It used to be when new neighbors moved in, they were welcomed with a fruit-laden gelatin mold. The Willow Grove Chamber of Commerce would like to take that idea just a couple of steps further. “I always say I feel like Ed McMahon, but without the big check,” Joanne DeFlavis, chairperson for the chamber’s Welcome Committee said. “Because, it’s such an unexpected, pleasant surprise.” Six times a year, including this afternoon, the chamber’s Welcome Committee puts together its Welcome Baskets, made up of items donated by chamber members, and gives them to new residents and new businesses that become members of the chamber. Giant Helps Willow Grove Resident Reach Healthy Milestone

With the help of Giant's individual in-store nutrition consultations, Willow Grove resident Helen Johnson was able to lose 113 pounds.

For many people, making the choice to eat better and live a healthier lifestyle begins at the supermarket. Mary Ann Moylan, RD, LDN, CDE, an in-store nutritionist at the GIANT Super Food Store in Willow Grove, has been assisting hundreds of customers make healthier choices since the store opened four years ago. Helen Johnson, a regular GIANT shopper from Willow Grove, recently reached a milestone with the help of Mary Ann and her individual nutrition consultations. Women of Willow Grove to Host Business Expo

The business expo, which will feature over 40 businesses, will take place May 8.

More than 40 local companies will be featured at the second annual Willow Grove Business Expo on May 8. The entire community is invited to attend and see the breadth and depth of Willow Grove businesses. The Expo, sponsored by the Women of Willow Grove, will showcase local businesses and give attendees an opportunity to learn about what the community has to offer. The Expo will be in the Community Rooms on the upper level of the Giant Super Store, 315 York Road, Willow Grove, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is by donation of only $5.00. Proceeds will go to support local charities. Light fare and beverages will be provided. One bag of the product has tested positive for Salmonella, and the recall of the four production codes is being conducted as a precautionary measure. No dog illnesses have been reported. Casey Pushes Payroll Tax Credit Bill

Allows business to take 10 percent credit on new payroll for a period of one year

A day after winning his primary election, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) spent part of Wednesday plugging a Democrat-sponsored small business tax relief bill that he says would save Montgomery County businesses more than $6,200 for each new worker they hired during the year that followed that bill's passage into law. The bill would give businesses in the county a tax credit equivalent to 10 percent of any payroll they added over their 2011 payroll figures. The bill in question is the Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act of 2012 (S. 2237). The bill's co-sponsor, Sen. Charles Schumer, last week called the bill "one of the most bang-for-the-buck tax breaks we can give." A competing bill introduced by House Republicans would instead allow …

Sales on the Rise at Willow Grove Park Mall

The Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust reports consecutive quarterly increases for all its mall properties.

Rising sales at Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT)-owned malls are continued signs of a recovering economy. According to a recent PREIT press release, its April 24 end-of-first-quarter report, showed that sales at PREIT-owned regional malls reached an all time high of $376 per square foot. Including the Willow Grove Park Mall, PREIT also owns Moorestown and Cherry Hill malls. According to the release, the rise in sales marks the ninth consecutive quarter in which PREIT has shown increases with its sales. “With strong sales and meaningful NOI [Net Operating Income] growth, we are gaining momentum as the economy improves,” Ronald Rubin, PREIT chairman and chief executive officer said in the release.
