Two politicians from the county may face-off in a race for the state's seat.
Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet, but with phrases like "80 percent sure" and "pragmatism and practicality" being floated around, it is possible that Montgomery County may be home to a hot race in the 2014 Pennsylvania governor's race. Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor has not put a percentage on his desire to enter the race, but has said he is keeping a close eye on the current governor, Tom Corbett's actions in the second half of his term. The Upper Moreland Republican Committee announced that they are searching for all interested Republican’s looking to serve the Upper Moreland Township as an elected official. Commissioners in Ward 1, 3, 5 and 7 are part of the active elections this year in the Upper Moreland local government. Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor could challenge Pa. Governor Tom Corbett in 2014, PoliticsPA reports. The 51-year-old former district attorney and Lower Salford resident is the minority Republican on the county's 3-person executive and legislative board, alongside Democrats Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards. Castor told the political news website that he believes Corbett is "vulnerable" to a reelection challenge. Corbett and Castor have a storied history, including a 2004 Republican primary race for Attorney General. Teva Pharmaceuticals captured headlines this fall, when its Plan B One-Step was offered for free to high school students along with contraception and health-care services through a New York City program. Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, the company’s political action committee, spent more on campaign dollars this year than in the past. Democrats picked up net three state Senate seats Tuesday - their biggest gain since 1970 and the largest swing since the GOP won four seats in 1994, according to a PoliticsPa report. The party went three for three in open seats, picking up districts formerly held by Republicans. Kathleen Kane achieved two firsts in her Pennsylvania attorney general election victory: She defeated Republican David Freed 56 to 41 percent in unofficial results from Tuesday's voting. Kane won the support of Lehigh Valley voters on her way to statewide success: Bucks County Montgomery County Kane, 46, is a former Lackawanna County prosecutor who will now oversee an office with a staff of about 700 and subject to legislative battles over a budget that now stands at $81 million, according to a Philly.com report. Kane had a slight fundraising edge in the race. Both candidates pledged a review of the Jerry Sandusky child rape case.
According to the Montgomery County Election Offices, about half the township came out and voted yesterday.
President Obama won the election, and the majority of residents in Upper Moreland who voted yesterday reflected those same results. The Montgomery County Election Offices released the voting results for UM Township and about 700 fewer people came out and voted yesterday than in the 2008 Presidential Election. In 2008, the Democratic vote held a 57-41 advantage for President, and yesterday the Republican vote picked up a couple of percentage points swinging it to 55-43. For the most part, Montgomery County voters kept Congressional and State Legislative incumbents in their jobs.

It was a big night for Democrats in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, prompting what County Commissioner Josh Shapiro termed a "jubilant" mood at the party's county headquarters in Plymouth Meeting, but most Montgomery County Republicans who were bidding to keep their jobs on Tuesday did so successfully. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan.
