International Student Exchange Program: Host Families Wanted

Hello everyone! My name is Jonathan Harrington and I work for an organization called Youth for Understanding. We are a non-profit high school youth exchange program that works with students from over 60 different countries. Currently, we have students in the area still in need of host families, and are looking for families who would like to get involved in our cause. Here are two of many students waiting to welcome you into their lives.

MARIA

Described by her teachers as sweet and charming, Maria is an excellent student filled with ambition and a desire for adventure! Maria loves a challenge, and says that she has big expectations for herself - including becoming a lawyer someday! She has many interests, although her favorite is running. Maria says that she loves the sense of freedom it gives her. She also enjoys swimming and working out at the gym a few times a week. Maria is a typical teenage girl who loves jewelry, clothes, and make-up, and she earns her own spending money by doing two jobs - she works at a bookstore and also delivers newspapers. Maria describes her relationship with her family as "very close", and she is happy to help out with household chores and walking the family dog. She is "very adventurous" and says "I like to experience new kinds of things". She is hoping that when she returns to Denmark after her exchange year, she can claim to be "a real American girl".

From Brazil, Victor likes to figure out how machines and appliances work. He has always enjoyed trying to fix them when they break. He also likes to work with computers, watch movies, read, work out, go shopping or to a club, play video games, and he says traveling is his favorite hobby. He practices Muay-Thai and would like to try American sports that they don't typically do in Brazil. He plans to join his father someday in running the family business. His family enjoys watching TV, going to movies, eating together, visiting friends, and he loves going fishing with his Dad. His favorite classes are Biology, English, History, and Geography. Victor's teachers describe him as very dedicated, creative, helpful, careful, friendly, and as having a strong sense of self. Victor admiration for the USA inspired his wish to be an exchange student, and he writes, "I feel real excited and hopeful we can have the best together. I feel very grateful for the chance you'll give me".

Maria and Victor are just two of many YFU students looking for host families for the upcoming school year! Interested in hosting one of our students or just want some more information about our many programs, feel free to contact us: our phone number is (617) 868 3660 ext: 1105
