1,000 New Flu Cases in Pa. in Last Week

There is a confirmed case of the flu in every county in the state.

The flu, already considered widespread by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, is spreading even more rapidly.

Numbers released by the Health Department show that there are 2,180 confirmed cases of the flu in the state as of Dec. 28, 2013, and increase of more than 1,000 confirmed cases in a week.

There is now a confirmed case of the flu in every county in Pennsylvania.

With cases reported through Dec. 28, 2013, these are the number of confirmed flu cases in the region:

  • Bucks County: 21
  • Chester County: 30
  • Delaware County: 65
  • Lehigh County: 65
  • Montgomery County: 72
  • Northampton County: 72
  • Philadelphia County: 63

Lab-confirmed flu cases represent only a fraction of those with the flu, state health officials said, since most people—including those who seek health care—are diagnosed without lab testing.

To better protect yourself from the flu—and the fever and body aches that go with it—health officials recommend getting a flu vaccine.

The state Department of Health’s website and the flu vaccine finder provide information by county or zip code as to where to get flu shots.
