County Steps up Mobile Recycling Game

Recycling containers now available for a variety of events.

Thanks to a grant funded by ‘Keep America Beautiful’ and Anheuser-Busch, Montgomery County has acquired 18 collapsible recycling containers for use at stores, parks and public events.

"Let's face it, most beverage containers are consumed when folks are out and about and on the go," said Chris Kaasmann, Montgomery County Recycling Coordinator. "This program is a great opportunity to provide recycling options where there were previously none before."

Event organizers will be able to reserve up to 18 containers at a time by using a calendar on the County's website. If the date is available, the organizers will then have to sign a memorandum of understanding, as well as report back to the county regarding how much material was recycled at the event.

Everyone from individual groups and organizations to businesses and municipalities are welcomed to borrow the containers, and in compliance with county recycling standards, aluminum, glass and plastic bottles and cans will be accepted.

To add a little fun to the recycling initiative, each container will feature a code that can be scanned by a user's smart-phone.  Once scanned, the code will direct the user to the "I ROGO" -- I Recycle-On-The-Go -- website, where they can post the location of their recycling activities.
