How to Blog on Patch

It takes only a minute to share something with your fellow Patch users.

The new Patch is designed, in part, to provide more opportunities and visibility for local bloggers, whether they’ve been posting about community issues for years on other platforms or whether they want to take their first blogging steps now with Patch.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Sign in to your Patch account, if you're not already signed in. If you don't have an account yet, click "Join" at the top right of any page.

  • Pick a Patch site you’d like to blog on, and scroll past the top news stories until you see the green "+ Start blogging" button. Click it.

  • Type in a name for your blog. This is what your blog will be called (not the headline for your first post) and it will be part of the URL for your blog’s personal homepage. Something as simple as “Joe Schmoe’s Patch Blog” is plenty good, or you can make it more descriptive if you plan to typically blog on a specific topic or topics.

  • Upload a headshot or choose an icon that will appear with all your posts.

  • Click “Create your Blog”. This does just that, and it takes you to the homepage of your newly created blog. Go here anytime you want to create a new post.

  • If you’d like to blog on more than one site, repeat this process on any site that interests you as an audience.

  • Whenever you create a post, the page will ask you “Where do you want to post?” The first location will already be chosen for you: your blog on the current site. To post something to more than one site simultaneously, click “Add a Category”, enter the name of the Patch site, then in the resulting options click on the name of your blog there. Repeat with other sites as necessary, then compose your post, click “Post Now” and your post will go up automatically on all the sites you chose.

  • Whenever you have questions about blogging, please email uppermoreland@patch.com and we’ll be happy to answer them.
