Police Release More Details in Alleged Craigslist Killing

An Abington man with a Willow Grove address has been charged in the murder of a South Jersey man.

Two witnesses told police that a man wearing a white towel on his head led their friend down the street to look at an all-terrain vehicle before allegedly shooting him to death Friday night.

Thomas Coffee, 23, of the 1900 block of Lukens Avenue, in Abington, which has a Willow Grove mailing address, was arrested and charged Saturday with murder and related offenses for the death of Daniel Cook, 27, of Williamstown, NJ.

According to a release from the Philadelphia Police Department issued Monday, Cook, of the 1400 block of Victory Avenue in the Gloucester County municipality, had answered an ad on Craigslist for an all-terrain vehicle. Coffee, authorities allege, had posted the ad and purportedly asked Cook to meet him in the area of East Walnut Lane in Philadelphia to look at the ATV.

After getting out of his car, Cook walked down the street, allegedly with Coffee and his friends lost sight of him. Soon after, witnesses told police that they heard gunshots. Police received a 911 call at about 11:14 p.m. Friday.

Upon responding, emergency responders found Cook, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and ankle. He was pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m., police said.
