Developer: Bally’s Could be Razed by Late June

The site could be home to a 'Super Wawa.'

The Abington Planning Commission late Tuesday night approved the final land development plans for a Wawa, replete with gas pumps, near the corner of Old York and Baeder roads.

Abington’s Board of Commissioners will consider final plans for the “super Wawa” in early June … and so will Upper Moreland's.

Bruce Goodman, of Provco Goodman, Jenkintown, LP, the developer behind the proposed Wawas in Abington and Upper Moreland, said final land development plans for a proposed Wawa at the former Bally’s Total Fitness site will go before the Upper Moreland Board of Commissioners June 3.

Goodman said his firm is looking to build a Wawa store with gas pumps as well as a retail center at the location.

“If we’re successful, we’ll be knocking the Bally’s building down probably two to three weeks later,” Goodman said following the Abington meeting. “We’ll have a lot of work to do. We have to build a bridge off of Memorial Drive to get us into the site and we’re building not only a Wawa with gas facilities, but 10,000 square feet of retail. It’s going to be very attractive.”

The Bally’s building is about 25-30 years old, according to Goodman.
