EASTERN Office Management Student Begins Job Shadowing Program

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Office Management/Upper Moreland High School junior, Lawrence Daniel, is currently participating in a job shadowing program at EASTERN and at Abington Memorial Hospital as a part of his career and technical program at EASTERN.

Office Management began the job shadowing program as a way for students to gain real-world experience in many business-related fields, such as Marketing, Accounting, and Medical Coding and Billing. He began his first job shadowing job on March 11 in EASTERN’s Marketing Department. Lawrence will be visiting Abington Memorial Hospital every Thursday in various business departments.

Office Management at EASTERN seemed like the next logical step in Lawrence’s career. In the fall, Lawrence began attending the Office Management class. He chose this program because he enjoys working with computers and learning new applications. He is especially well-versed in programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

“EASTERN has many good programs. Before starting the Office Management program, I was in Protective Services - but it didn’t really fit my lifestyle or reflect what I wanted to become after high school,” said Lawrence.  “I have a respectful teacher who takes everything seriously and doesn’t take any negative comments from her students. I chose this program because I am very interested in working with computers and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher.”

Currently, Lawrence is involved with Lacrosse and Basketball at Upper Moreland High School, and plans to continue playing Lacrosse in college. After Lawrence graduates in 2015, he plans to continue his education in business at Villanova University. Ultimately, Lawrence would like to work as a financial manager.

EASTERN’s Office Management Program students benefit from a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience needed to work with computers and computer applications. Students also learn the professionalism that is necessary to succeed in an office environment.
