EASTERN Student Spotlight - Matthew Donnelly (Welding Technology/Hatboro-Horsham High School)
Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Welding Technology/Hatboro-Horsham High School senior, Matthew Donnelly, is getting a head start on his career as a welder.
Matthew’s sister came to EASTERN for Cosmetology, so he was already familiar with the school and the career and technical programs offered. He saw EASTERN as an opportunity to learn something that will only help him in the future, and the first step in his career. Matthew’s grandfather was a welder, so he has always been interested in the field and following in his grandfather’s footsteps.
Matthew enjoys spending two hours and 45 minutes each day in a class with students who share his same interest – which is learning to become a good welder. He also appreciates being able to learn all the aspects of welding while still in high school.

“Mr. Devine, EASTERN’s Welding Technology Instructor, pushes us to do our best, and is always there for his students,” said Matthew. “My advice to students considering Welding Technology is to follow your own career path. No one can decide your future for you. This is an opportunity to take the first steps toward a lucrative career.”
After graduation from EASTERN and Hatboro-Horsham, Matthew hopes to join a welding or sheet metal union.
