Montgomery County Extending Hours for Free Flu Shots

Montgomery County officials are urging residents to get their vaccines.

The Montgomery County Health Department has increased the hours free flu vaccines are available at its three health centers throughout the county.  At the same time, officials urged residents to get flu shots from their doctors, local pharmacies or the county centers.

“There has been an increase in influenza activity in all regions of the state, including Montgomery County,” said Josh Shapiro, chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners.  “More than 7, 000 flu cases were reported in Pennsylvania during the last two weeks of December 2012.  Because the flu does not typically peak until mid-January or February, now is the time to get vaccinated.  It is not too late”

Influenza can occur at any time. In recent seasons, most infections have occurred in January and February. Getting vaccinated now will still be beneficial, officials stressed. Most people 6 months of age and older should get flu vaccine every year.
