New Water Spray Poles Needed at Upper Moreland Park

The Water Spray Pole at Masons Mill Park is a popular attraction for kids, especially in the summertime. When the weather is warm children gather near the playground for a chance to cool off and have some fun.

The Water Spray Pole, however, needs improvement and the Parks and Rec Committee are looking into ways to add two more poles, as well as replace the current one.

Parks and Rec Director Pat Stasio requested permission to apply for a grant that would enable funding for this project.

“I evaluated our parks and one thing we’ve been wanting to do in the park system is make improvements to the spray pole at Masons Mills Park,” Stasio said. “It’s one of our more popular activities at Masons Mill Park and it needs improvements. The kids just love it.”

Stasio said he received a verbal commitment that the project would cost between $45,000 to $50,000 to add two more poles, replace the current one and cover plumbing costs.

Stasio told committee members that they have to apply for the grant by April 10, and it would be a 50-percent matching grant with  “no commitment from the township at this point.”

The Parks and Rec committee gave Stasio permission to apply for the grant and the township will know if they qualified by the end of this year.
