Eastern Welding Student Heads to Shippensburg

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology () Welding Technology/Hatboro-Horsham High School senior, Penelope Avia, has been accepted to Shippensburg University. Penelope, currently the only female in EASTERN’s Welding Technology program, will attend Shippensburg to pursue her Bachelors in Psychology, and minor in Pre-Med.

Penelope’s grandfather is a welder, and he told her about the job opportunities and earning potential in the welding field. She had a friend who was taking Welding Technology at EASTERN, which prompted her to investigate the program at EASTERN further.

Although she enjoys welding and is a leader in her class, psychology has been her main area of interest since ninth grade. She has always been interested in finding out why people behave the way that they do, and she enjoys helping people. She feels as though psychology is the natural career path for her.

She still plans to work through college as a welder. “Shippensburg was my first choice, and the first acceptance letter that I received. I heard positive things about Shippensburg’s Psychology program, and I have a visit scheduled for later this month,” said Penelope. “Students from nine school districts attend EASTERN, so I am in class with people from many other high schools. EASTERN provides a college-like atmosphere, and I believe it has prepared me for next year.”

After graduation from Shippensburg University, Penelope plans to pursue her Master and Doctoral degrees in Psychology.
