Giant Puts Free ‘Kid Healthy Ideas’ Mag on Shelves

The family-oriented magazine is designed to help kids have healthier lives. Also, Giant's 'Good Things Grow Kid Challenges.'

In its ongoing efforts to fight childhood obesity and help kids live healthier lifestyles, and MARTIN’S Food Markets recently announced a series of activities geared towards healthy kids this spring.

In addition, the first issue of the grocers’ brand new “Kid Healthy Ideas,” a free health and wellness magazine, is now available in all stores.

The 12-page, full color magazine, is designed for kids ages 8 to 12 and features health-related educational articles, games and recipes.

“Healthy choices for families often start at the supermarket and as a grocery retailer we are committed to providing health and wellness information that not only engages adults, but also children,” said Rick Herring, president. “We encourage parents and grandparents to pick up a copy of “Kid Healthy Ideas” to try fun recipes at home, in addition to participating in one of our healthy in-store activities scheduled over the next several weeks.”

Published on a quarterly basis, all articles and content within “Kid Healthy Ideas” are written by GIANT/MARTIN’S nutritionists, expert associates and community health partners. Parents and kids can obtain their free copy of “Kid Healthy Ideas” in the produce department of their local GIANT/MARTIN’S and store lobbies. GIANT and MARTIN’S will also be offering hands-on “Good Things Grow Kid Challenges” focused on healthy lifestyles for four consecutive Saturdays in all of its stores. Children will receive a free take-away or product sample each week. The schedule of in-store activities includes:

The April 21 Challenge encourages kids to try something new within the produce department, including star fruit, kiwi and mango.

The April 28 Challenge is all about Earth Day and kids will have an opportunity to plant bean seeds to take home and watch grow.

On May 5 kids can learn that Good Things Grow during Cinco de Mayo by creating their own maraca!

• Finally, on May 12 kids can learn how to make mom a healthy breakfast in celebration of Mother’s Day.

GIANT/MARTIN’S is committed to providing the community with the knowledge they need to address health concerns, especially for children. In select markets, in-store nutritionists offer individual consultations, guided store tours, and classes, all addressed to meet customers’ dietary goals.
