Upper Moreland Free Public Library Honors Volunteers

Volunteers of the Upper Moreland Free Public Library were recognized in a special awards ceremony.

On April 22, the was honored to recognize 2011 library volunteers at a 2012 Volunteer Tea.

In 2011 library volunteers gave more than 1,200 hours to the library.  In addition to the commitment of time that volunteers supplied, the Friends of Upper Moreland Free Public Library also gave the library just over $15,000 to support library programs and projects which they raise through the ongoing book sale and throughout the year.

Special awards were also given out.

  • The Frances Feldheim Memorial Award was established in 2003 to honor people who have demonstrated exceptional service to the Upper Moreland Library.  This Award was given jointly to Harry Farrell and Susan Doodan in recognition of their service to the library.  The plaque honoring the recipients of this award is on display in the library.
  • The Hilda Mills Award recognizes library staff members and outstanding Upper Moreland residents who have gone above and beyond what would be expected for their positions. This award recognized former library director who was instrumental in the move from the library’s former location in the basement of the township building to our current, beautiful building.  The plaque honoring the recipients of this award is on display in the library.
  • The Library also honored Karen Houck for her vision and commitment to the . A plaque will be mounted in the Children’s Room acknowledging her efforts.
  • The library also dedicated the new in the library in memory of Lillian Burnley, who passed away in 2011. A plaque will be displayed on the wall in the new teen area to this effect.
