Families Learn Valuable Fire Prevention Lessons at Volunteer Fire Company Open House

Over 1,000 people paid a visit to the Willow Grove Volunteer Fire Company open house.

Up to 1,000 people attended the Fire prevention night, which took place on Oct. 6.

The event, which started at 6:30 p.m., was an open house to the public, and  featured the return of a 1966 Emergency Vehicle that was once stationed with the Willow Grove Fire Department.

Also featured were several family friendly games and activities, each one teaching children fire-safety lessons.

Some activities taught children how to “Stop, Drop and Roll,” while other activities invited participants to dress up as a fire fighter.

According to Tom Winterberg, a lieutenant with the volunteer fire department, youth were also invited to dress up in firefighter gear to help them not fear when firefighters come for a rescue.

“Everybody had a good time,” Winterberg said. “We had the open house to let the public see what their tax dollars pay for.”

Other activities included a fire extinguisher simulator and a smoke detector demonstration.
