Police Taser Willow Grove Man Who Struck Patrol Car
The suspect now faces charges of assault and resisting arrest.
A 23-year-old Willow Grove man was tased by Upper Dublin Police after he struck a police vehicle while driving under the influence in February, authorities say.
According to an Upper Dublin Police report, Matthew Weygand, 23, of the 1800 block of Twining Road, Willow Grove, was driving in a black Camaro on Feb. 26 when he struck a police cruiser near the intersection of Twining and Susquehanna Roads.
Police pursued Weygand, who failed to stop for some period of time, the report said. When he did finally stop and exit the vehicle near the intersection of Twining and Dale Roads, an officer told him to place his hands up and walk backwards toward the sound of his voice. However, Weygand ignored these commands, despite begin warned several times that he would be tased if he did not comply, police said.

Based on his “appearance and demeanor,” it appeared that Weygand was under the influence of a narcotic, the report said. Weygand then lowered his arms toward the front of his waist, at which time police tased Weygand by firing into his back.
Weygand was then taken into custody, and will be charged with assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving and related charges.
