Trick-or-Treating Safety Advice in Upper Moreland

Upper Moreland Police Department provides some tips on being safe while taking your family trick-or-treating.

On Monday night, little ghosts, monsters, vampires and probably a fair number of princesses will be knocking on doors in Upper Moreland, eager for some Halloween treats.

And, while the township has no regulations on times and places for trick-or-treating families to follow, Upper Moreland Police Department’s Chief Thomas Nestel does offer a few friendly reminders and advice.

The Police Department recommends that children be accompanied by an adult, and that trick-or-treating only occur at locations that have lights on, Nestel said in an e-mail.

“Additionally, it should be noted that every police officer patrolling on Halloween night has a stash of candy just waiting to be given to Upper Moreland's ghouls and goblins," Nestel said.

Also, for the adults celebrating the Halloween Weekend, UMPD has announced that its patrol officers will be increased, in order to look for drivers under the influence.

“If you drink, don't drive,” Nestel said. “Call a cab!"
