Upper Moreland Man Cited with Careless Driving in Death of 75-Year-old Woman

Benjamin Irven Beliveau of Upper Moreland, struck and killed Dorothy A. Lodge, in Hatboro Nov. 16, according to police.

 

On Nov. 16, according to police, Benjamin Irven Beliveau, 60, was driving over the speed limit southbound on N. Warminster Road in Hatboro near Lycoming Avenue when he struck and killed Dorothy A. Lodge, 75, of Upper Moreland.

Today, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Hatboro Police Chief James E. Gardner announced the criminal charges against Beliveau in relation to the accident.

Beliveau “struck and killed Lodge, who was in the process of crossing N. Warminster Road,” the report states. And “within minutes [he] called 9-1-1 from his home and reported he may have struck something.”  

Beliveau reported that he was unsure what he had hit and drove around the block before going home near the scene of the accident.

After the “thorough investigation,” Beliveau is being issued citations for Careless Driving Resulting in an Unintentional Death.

A month after Lodge was killed, her family and a neighbor have forged a campaign to have Warminster Road made safer.
