New Trash Cans to Cost Upper Moreland $5K

The Upper Moreland Parks and Rec Committee approved the purchase of two, double-barrel trash containers March 18 that will allow for regular trash disposal and recycling in the township.

The township budgeted $5,000 that could have netted five single cans, but ultimately it was decided to buy two, double-barrel systems at $1,996 apiece ($200-plus for shipping).

“We have a law that says we need to recycle,” Commissioner Kevin Spearing said. “There is trash all over the place downtown … I just want to get the trash off the street.”

Commissioner Donald Warner questioned if the township could buy cheaper cans.

“$4,600 for four cans? There’s no other quality manufactures out there who can make something for less?” Warner asked.

Parks and Rec Director Pat Stasio said they looked into it and that “they’re all almost the same price.”

The cans will be placed along the Easton Road and York Road corridor, as well as York Road and Davisville Road near the courthouse annex.

“As a downtown supporter I’ve been waiting for these trash cans to come to us,” one resident said at the meeting. “We want to teach people who come through our township, as well as our own residents, that we recycle.”
