UM Township Presents Plastic Recycling Guidlines

Only certain numbered plastics will be accepted for recycling.

Upper Moreland Township is now accepting plastics numbered 1 through 7 for recycling.

These include:

# 1 Plastic Containers - PETE

- Examples: Soda and water bottles, medicine containers, food trays that go into the oven and other common product containers.

#2 Plastic Containers - HDPE

- Examples: Containers that hold laundry detergents and bleaches as well as milk, shampoo and motor oil, butter and yogurt tubs, cereal box liners, etc.

#3 Plastics - PVC

- Examples: Window cleaner and shampoo and cooking oil bottles, clear food packaging, etc.

#4 Plastics - LDPE

- Example: Squeezable bottles.

#5 Plastics - PP

- Examples: Tupperware, syrup and ketchup bottles, caps, etc.

#6 Plastics - PS

- Examples: Lids or food containers like those covering meat/veggie trays, cinnamon roll containers, cookie boxes, etc.

#7 Plastics - OTHER

- Examples: Three-and five-gallon water bottles

EXCLUDED:

  • Styrofoam (includes egg cartons, clamshell containers, plates, cups and meat trays)
  • Packing peanuts
  • Plastic films or bags
  • PVC pipes
  • CDs/DVDs
  • Paper drink containers with wax (plastic) liners (e.g., milk/orange juice containers)
  • Coffee cup lids
  • Straws
  • Plastic cutlery
  • Plastic six-pack rings
  • Waxed paper and waxed cardboard
  • Coat hangers
