Upper Moreland May Rezone for Auto Dealership

The Upper Moreland Commissioners scheduled a public hearing to consider amending the zoning to allow for a Lexus dealership.

A Lexus dealership may open at Maryland and Easton roads in Upper Moreland, but before it does, the governing body must rezone the parcel.

Thompson Lexus hopes to open a dealership near the Turnpike entrance, on a parcel owned by Abington Memorial Hospital. The 62,000 square-foot property would be home to the dealership as well as an adjacent business, ideally a second car dealership.

The Lexus building would be 55-feet tall, and there would be five 22-foot Pylon signs in the area advertising the company. The entrance to the property would be on Maryland Road, not Easton.

Following last month’s back-and-forth discussion among the commissioners about what zoning would be appropriate for the proposed use, the governing body, at a recent meeting, set Oct. 7 at 7:15 p.m. as the date and time for a public hearing to consider possibly rezoning the parcel, according to Commissioner Chairman Sam Valenza.
