EASTERN Honors Student of Month for Achievements, Excellence

Abigail Applebaum is March's Student of the Month at EASTERN for her work in the Culinary Arts program.

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology has announced its Student of the Month for March is Abigail Applebaum.

The Springfield High School senior is in her second year of EASTERN’s Culinary Arts program. Abigail maintains high grades and is actively involved in SkillsUSA as the 2012-13 as the school-wide Vice President. SkillsUSA promotes good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork and recognizes student achievement and excellence.

She recently was a student presenter at Springfield for EASTERN’s 10th Grade Career Expo presentation, in which she discussed the specifics of her Culinary Arts program. And last May at EASTERN’s Awards Night, Abigail was awarded the Singer Foods Award. She also received the General Excellence Award from the Jewish Community High School for the past four years.

“Through her role in SkillsUSA, Abbie has acquired great leadership skills and confidence,” said Chef Joel Marucheck, EASTERN’s Culinary Arts Instructor. “Her education at EASTERN, coupled with her plans for higher education at IUP, will definitely pave the way for her success in the culinary industry.

Abigail plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Academy of Culinary Arts with a focus on Baking and Pastry Arts.

Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN’s faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.
