Eastern Student of the month: Benjamin Welch

From his involvement with SkillsUSA to working toward an Associate of Science Degree in Network Administration from MCCC, Benjamin has a bright future ahead of him.

Benjamin Welch is the November 2011 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology () in Willow Grove. He is in his second year of EASTERN’s Computer Network Administration program and a senior at Upper Dublin High School.

The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN’s faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

At EASTERN, Benjamin maintains an ‘A’ average in his Computer Network Administration program, while maintaining an active role in as the 2011 – 2012 School-Wide Treasurer.

He was a delegate at the SkillsUSA State Conference in April 2011. SkillsUSA is a national student organization promoting good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and recognizes student achievement and excellence. 

At EASTERN, Benjamin was the 2010 – 2011 student representative for the Computer Network Administration Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC). This school year, he is the student representative for EASTERN’s Executive Advisory Committee. At EASTERN’s Awards Night in May 2011, Benjamin received the Computer Network Administration Outstanding Student Award and the OAC Award.

Through EASTERN’s dual enrollment program with Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), Benjamin will graduate EASTERN and Upper Dublin High School with 21 credits toward his Associate of Science Degree in Network Administration. 

He plans to continue his education at MCCC after graduation, after which he will matriculate to Penn State University for his Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology.  He is currently a Certified Linux Administrator.
