Eastern Student of the Month: Elaina Leonardi

Elaina is Eastern's school-wide SkillsUSA president.

Elaina Leonardi is the February 2012 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology () in Willow Grove. She is in her second year of EASTERN’s Culinary Arts program and a senior at . The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN’s faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

At EASTERN, Elaina maintains high grades in her Culinary Arts program while maintaining an active role in SkillsUSA as the 2011 – 2012 School-Wide President.

Elaina volunteers her time and culinary talents to many EASTERN events such as Parents Night and the Joint Operating Committee Board Dinner. SkillsUSA is a national student organization promoting good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and recognizes student achievement and excellence.

She was selected to attend the Annual District 2 Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) Leadership Conference at the Pocono Manor Resort in November 2011 and was part of EASTERN teams that brought back gold and silver medals.  At EASTERN’s Award Night in May 2011, Elaina was the recipient of the Zwilling J. S. Henckles and Perfect Attendance Awards.

At Upper Moreland High School, Elaina is the Field Hockey Goalie and Tech Crew Manager.  She is currently employed at McDonalds as a drive-through cashier. Elaina has recently narrowed down her college selection to Indiana University of Pennsylvania or Penn College of Technology.  Ultimately, she hopes to own her own bakery.

EASTERN’s Culinary Arts program enables students to acquire a variety of skills including soup and sauce preparation, preparation of meat, fish and poultry entrees, baking, kitchen sanitation, purchasing and inventory controls. One-year seniors will be considered if space is available in the program.
