Abington High School senior Matthew Mines is June's student of the month at the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology.
Mines, who is in his second year of Eastern’s construction technology program, maintains an A average and has been providing construction and home repair services for family and friends since 2009. Some of the projects include basement renovations, demolition, hanging drywall and shed building.
Mines also represented Eastern during the career expo visitations. At Abington High School, he is on the varsity soccer team, varsity volleyball team, track team, chorus and a member of Friends Against Alcohol and Drugs.
He volunteered his time to help run a soccer clinic at the Special Olympics and refereed in three Special Olympics soccer tournaments.
“Matthew is determined and focused,” Eastern construction technology instructor, Jeff Pakula said. “He has developed a clear path toward his career and his goals, and I have no doubt he will achieve all that he sets out to do.”
After completion of his Eastern program and graduation from Abington High School, Mines said he plans to attend Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology for its two-year program in carpentry technology. He also plans to pursue his bachelor’s degree in business so that he can run his own company.
