HSA to host "Meet the School Board Candiates"

The Home and School Associations of the Upper Moreland School District will again host a Meet the School Board Candidate event on Oct. 19, starting at 7 p.m.

The event will be held at the TLC II Room of the Upper Morland Intermediate School, and will feature all candidates for school director.

According to HSA high school co-president, Stacey Lieser, the first school board candidate panel discussion, held May 9, had a good turnout.

"It really went well last time," Lieser said. "It seemed to be fair to everyone."

The Oct. 19 event will feature the same format as the t, in which the candidates will participate in a "Round Robin."

During this format, candidates will take turns answering pre-determined questions, with each candidate having the opportunity to answer a question first.

According to Lieser, questions are concevied by the respective HSA representatives, but the public is also welcomed to submit their own questions to be asked at the event.

And while the previous school board candidates was well-attended, with over 80 in the audience, many township residents have expressed regret at not being able to attend, which was the reason for the HSA to host the second event.

"This is the first time in a long time that we have more candidates than open seats," Lieser said, referring to the five open school board positions. "It really is the responsibility to learn all about the candidates and make informed decisions."

The public is welcomed to submit their questions to the school board candidates, and may do so by contacting Stacey Lieser at yostace@comcast.net.
