Kiwanis to hold Holiday Breakfast at Eastern

The Kiwanis of Old York Road will hold its 10th annual Holiday Breakfast at Eastern, featuring Eastern's culinary students.

For the last 10 years, the Kiwanis Club of Old York Road has hosted a Holiday Breakfast at (Eastern), featuring the culinary creations of the school’s culinary students.

According to Tim Hoffman, Kiwanis of Old York Road secretary, the breakfast started out as a fundraiser for the charitable club, but eventually blossomed into an ongoing partnership.

“The Eastern Center asked that the Kiwanis Club make a donation to their foundation,” Hoffman said in an e-mail. “The donation has always been a scholarship to a culinary student, because they are the ones who do the work for the breakfast.”

Hoffman added that any funds not distributed to the school will go toward helping local families in need during the holidays.

The holiday breakfast will take place this Sunday, Dec. 4, from 8 – 11 a.m. in the school’s restaurant.

The menu for the breakfast will include:

  • Eggs (omelets and scrambled)
  • French toast
  • Pancakes
  • Bacon
  • Sausage
  • Breakfast potatoes

According to Amy Shields, Eastern’s organizational advancement director, the scholarships are presented to the culinary students during the school’s awards night ceremony.

She said that the students of Eastern also help Kiwanis with their fundraising efforts throughout the year, including with the club’s recent rose sales.

“They do so much good, not only for Eastern but all throughout the community,” Shields said. “We’re proud to be a partner with them.
