MCCC Opens One of Only Seven Citrix IT Academies in U.S.

Today’s workplace is experiencing a technology transformation, as people increasingly rely on smartphones, tablets and other devices to do their daily work. This transformation calls for knowledgeable IT professionals well-versed in virtualization, networking, collaboration and cloud technologies.

To help students gain these skills, Montgomery County Community College recently became a Citrix authorized academic partner and opened a Citrix IT Academy at its Central Campus in Blue Bell. The College is one of only seven Citrix IT Academy pilots in the country and the first in Pennsylvania.

Citrix Systems Inc., a multinational corporation based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, provides server and desktop virtualization, networking, software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud computing technologies, including XEN open source products.

Montgomery County Community College’s Citrix IT Academy will prepare students for Citrix certifications and jobs in virtualization, networking and cloud solutions by offering courses in XENServer, XENDesktop and XENApp.

The Citrix courses are designed for students currently enrolled in a Network or Network Virtualization program and/or for those who have a basic knowledge of virtualization technology; an understanding of computer architectures, including network and storage devices, device drivers and operating systems; and who are Microsoft MCSA, MCSE or MCTS or Windows Server 2008 certified and/or who have experience with installing and administering Windows Server and Linux.

To build upon the prerequisites, prior to enrolling in a Citrix IT Academy course, students will have free access to a one-week virtual course covering an introduction to virtualization and Microsoft Hypervisor.

 Each XEN course is 40 hours in duration for a five-week period with classes meeting twice a week in the evenings. To receive their Citrix certification, students must take and pass the Citrix certification exams for all three courses. The first course for XENserver starts Nov. 7

The Citrix IT Academy program is designed to connect students who earn their certifications with Citrix customers and partners for potential job and career opportunities. IT professionals with Citrix certifications are in high demand and are well-compensated.
