School Board Appoints New Asst. Superintendent

Jenny Lehman takes up the position after 10 years on the job as the Upper Moreland School District's director of Education.

The announcement came during the April 24 Regular Meeting of the Upper Moreland School Board: Jenny Lehman would no longer be the school district’s director of education.

Instead, the school board made a motion to appoint Lehman as the district’s new assistant superintendent.

“I am delighted to make this motion,” Lisa Berlin, chair of the board’s Human Resources Committee, said during the regular meeting.

In her remarks, Berlin noted that the position has not been filled for the last several years, and moving from her current position as director of education to assistant superintendent will provide Lehman with the opportunity to further her work in the district.

According to the school district’s superintendent, Dr. Robert Milrod, Lehman has worked in the district for the last 10 years.

“A few things I can say about Jenny, in my 30 years of education, she is the hardest-working person,” Milrod said, during the meeting.

Milrod gave high praise to Lehman for her work with curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development throughout the district.

“If you ask people in our district what works,” Milrod said of board members, teachers and administrators, “one answer comes forward: It is our Framework for continuous improvement.”

In his remarks, Milrod said that district’s Framework has been “brought to life” over the past decade, in which Lehman has worked in Upper Moreland schools.

In regards to her work with curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development, Milrod said he believes that Upper Moreland has become one of the most progressive school districts.

“If not in the sate, certainly in the county,” Milrod said.

Lehman’s new role will provide her with the opportunity to work more closely with the district’s principals and building administrators, focusing on the district’s Framework.  He added that Lehman will also help the district to increase its rigor and excellence, which he says Upper Moreland schools have been known for, in the last 10 years.

“I wish her well and thank the board for their support in providing her with this opportunity,” Milrod said. “An opportunity, not only for Jenny, but most importantly for our school district.”

The school board unanimously voted to appoint Lehman to the position of Assistant Superintendent of Upper Moreland School District.

Lehman will take up this position starting July 1 this year for a contractual period of five years, after which time the board will vote again regarding the position. It was also reported in the Human Resources Committee agenda that the assistant superintendent position would start the 2012 – 2013 school year at $136,711.25.

In a correspondence with Patch, Lehman said that she feels priviledged and honored at the opportunity of serving the district as its new assistant superintendent.

I look forward to continuing my leadership role in curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development.  The support of the Board, Superintendent of schools, the community and district staff is appreciated and welcomed for my success in this role.

As Assistant Superintendent of Schools, I am committed to continue to be a strong leader in teaching and learning.  With increased supervisory responsibilities I hope to bring continued commitment and collaboration to support learning opportunities for students.

I welcome the opportunity to serve the district in the role of assistant superintendent with great pride and believe we will continue to build upon our knowledge of what works and support improved learning opportunities for all students.
