School District Provides Overview on Draft Budget

Real estate taxes are expected to increase to help fill an estimated $1.61 million gap in the 2012-2013 proposed Upper Moreland School District budget.

The April 17 Budget and Finance committee of the Upper Moreland School Board discussed the 2012-2013 district budget.

In that meeting, Mike Braun, school district business manager, provided an overview of the proposed budget, according to a Montgomery Media report.

According to the report, the Real Estate taxes would have to increase 4.26 percent to balance a draft version of the Upper Moreland School District’s preliminary final budget for 2012-2013.

The draft budget proposal showed $54.5 million in 2012-2013 for district revenues, while also also showing $56.11 million in expenditures.

The proposed budget also indicated that $709,417 would be lost in revenue from the state.

The district must adopt its proposed final budget by the end of May. According to the report, June 30 is the deadline for final budget adoption.
