UMHS Post-Prom Open House Tonight, June 3

UMHS has held the Post-Prom party for over 50 years.

In Upper Moreland, prom night isn’t just a big night for the students – and it hasn’t been for over 50 years.

Ever year, the parents of also take part in their children’s senior prom by throwing them a wildly popular post-prom party.

“They do go a little crazy,” joked UMHS post-prom co-chair Lisa Driscoll.

However, Driscoll wasn’t referring to the students, but rather on the enthusiasm of the parents that volunteer for post-prom.

According to Driscoll, each year a theme is chosen that best relates with the senior prom students, and the parents decorate the high school gymnasium based off that theme.

The theme is always kept a secret from the students until the post-prom party, and according to Driscoll, this year’s theme boasts nine interactive stations.

Each station is meticulously decorated and planned for the entertainment of the students. While not wanting to reveal this year’s theme, Driscoll did mention that there will be dance competitions, plenty of Wii gaming systems, and something to do with headbands and Slinkys.

All the post-prom festivities are designed to ensure that the students can continue to enjoy their prom night in a fun and safe environment.

“The whole idea is to keep them safe on prom night,” Driscoll said.

The post-prom festivities start at 11 p.m. and last until 4 a.m., where students participate in a lock-in.

According to Driscoll, it takes months of preparation and many parent-volunteers to create a post-prom party. The Upper Moreland community as a whole is also a major contributor to the party, as individuals and local businesses have donated most of the games, food and entertainment.

A preview of the post-prom activities will be available for the general public tonight, June 3, from 8 – 10 p.m.
