A lesson in "Digital Photogram" - by Alex Pinguli:

"In this assignment students learned that there are other ways of taking photos than just with a camera as in a photogram.  A true photogram is made when objects are placed onto light sensitive photo paper and exposed to light. After the developing process in dark room the areas of the paper that had direct light on them appear black.  Objects, on the other hand, leave a whitish silhouette behind. In Digital Photography students used scanners to simulate the photogram effect. They began by bringing objects from home and arranging them on the scanner and reducing them to a black and white image. The scanned images were fine tuned in Photoshop as students enhanced the contrast, sharpness, and cropped their images. Some proceeded to even add color to selective areas of their photo for emphasis."
