Upper Moreland School Board Locks in Milrod for Five More Years

In the fourth of his five-year contract, Superintendent Robert Milrod agreed to come to terms with the Upper Moreland school board to end the current contract Aug. 23 to enact the new five-year deal.

The Upper Moreland school board unanimously approved a five-year contract for Superintendent Robert Milrod Aug. 23. For the 2011-12 year, Milrod will earn $172,707.80, which represents a 1.4 percent increase from his 2010 contract of $170,300. The new contract runs through June 30, 2016.

“I want to give my heartfelt thanks for providing me the opportunity to serve the district for 14 years,” Milrod said. “I will continue to do my best to work with students, teachers and community.”

“The date of the contract and the increase in pay are linked to Act 1 index,” school board President David Hakes said. “The original contract did not reflect the realities of Act 1.”

According to the school board, the state sets superintendent’s contract at a minimum of three and a maximum of five years.

“I am absolutely thrilled,” Hakes said. “[Milrod]’s primary interest is in the education of the children of the district.”

Starting his sixth year as superintendent, this new contract represents Milrod’s third contract with the district. Milrod received his first five-year superintendent contract in 2006. However, after one year, the school board renegotiated the deal and offered Milrod a second five-year contract.

“This new contract is a reflection of how we support the position of superintendent and how much we believe in the job and leadership Superintendent Milrod provides,” board member Lisa Berlin said.

Milrod’s 30 years in education includes working with students from preschool to university level, in public and non-public schools, and in rural, suburban and urban settings.

“Our township is lucky to have Bob as a leader,” board member Mark Wenik said. “He is here for us 24 hours a day, and although we may not always agree, he always presents us with all the information.”

Prior to joining Upper Moreland, Milrod was a high school English teacher and a school psychologist. Milrod joined the district as a middle school assistant principal and moved up to principal, and then to assistant superintendent of education instruction.

Milrod is also a Pennsylvania licensed psychologist and the past president of the school division of the PA Psychological Association.

“We’re an underrated school district these days,” board member Donald Warner said. “We’ve had more kids go to college in recent years, and the community should be thankful for the leadership Dr. Milrod provides. He is advocating for your children.”
