Bears Ready for Some Football

The Philadelphia Eagles aren't the only local team that works on passing, punting and tackling at training camp. The Willow Grove Bears are working on their football playing during daily trainings.

Whistle-blowing is a common sound behind Upper Moreland Middle School weeknight evenings as the Willow Grove Bears take to the fields.

Streaks of purple and gold run, punt, pass and tackle during the vigorous daily training camps.

Football players are divided among weight classes starting at 55 pounds and continuing to 65 pounds, 75 pounds, 90 pounds and 105 pounds.

And since no football game would be complete without a cheering section, the Bears' cheerleaders–divided among the same weight classes as the boys–clap, chant and strut their stuff during simultaneous cheer camps.

The football club is seeking players, particularly for its 105-pound weight class and is "in danger of not fielding a team ... because we don't have enough kids," according to Willow Grove Bears Football Club President Thomas Troxell. See more on joining the team here.
