Little Leaguers Stay Focused on State Championship

Upper Moreland Little League's junior level team is still in the running for state championship despite a loss Thursday.

The game was close, the stakes were high, but the Upper Moreland Little League junior team still has a fighting chance to compete for the state championship.

The boys played a hard-fought game Friday against North Pocono, losing 6-5.

Coach Mike Searles said the second of three games leading to Sunday's state championship double-header amounted to a "very well-played game all around."

"We certainly weren’t upset with the boys," Searles said. "They played their hearts out today."

Upper Moreland had a 5-3 lead even into the last inning, Searles said.

"They got a few hits and they made it happen," Searles said of the opponent.

The loss does not spell defeat, according to Searles, who is looking ahead to a 1 p.m. game against Pennridge on Saturday.

"If we win we make it through to the championship round," he said. "If we don’t, we’re done."

Saturday's results will determine the final seeding for Sunday's games, he said.

"Our destiny’s in our hands," Searles said.
