Pickleball and Tennis Returning to Upper Moreland Courts

The Upper Moreland Parks and Recreation Department is bringing back two very popular sports at the end of May.

Masons Mill Park, located at 3500 Masons Mill Road in Huntingdon Valley,  will again be the site of two popular sports in Upper Moreland.

Starting in early June, the Parks and Recreation Department will host adult Pickleball and Tennis instruction, as well as free pickleball learn and play and meet-up games.

Speaking to Patch in a previous article about pickleball, Philadelphia pickleball ambassador Stan Shoemaker explained that the sport has been around for 40 years and continues to gain popularity.

“It is an outdoor sport that combines the rules of Ping-Pong, tennis and badminton,” Shoemaker said in the article. “We use paddles similar to Ping-Pong [and] racket ball. We play on a badminton style court with a lower net than tennis net. The scoring is just like tennis. The balls that we use have little holes in them like a wiffle ball.”

The township’s Parks and Recreation Department provides the following information for pickleball and tennis scheduling this year:
