Upper Moreland Little Leaguers Win State Title

With a 9-2 win over Pennridge, UM moves on to the regional tournament this weekend in New Jersey.

It started more than a decade ago, when the baseballs were on a tee and the kids played for the post-game treat. It ended … well it hasn’t ended for a group of Upper Moreland Little League Senior league players, who were crowned state champions Sunday night after a 9-2 win over Pennridge Little League.

Eddie Decker was the starting – and winning – pitcher. After the game all he could talk about was winning as a group.

“Winning it was a blast, really, because you’re doing it with your friends and having a good time,” Decker said. A good time, indeed. Since the postseason started in late June with the District 22 tournament, the team is a remarkable 14-0, having swept District 22, Section 8 and the state tournaments. “It was so much fun because we all get along so well and have great team chemistry.”

Next up is the Regional tournament, which begins this weekend in New Jersey. Their goal? Reaching the Senior League World Series in Maine. How cool would that be to Decker and his long-time teammates? “Very cool, of course. It would just show how hard we worked, not just this year, but all these years.”
