County Taxes Going Up 17 Percent

Montgomery County Board of Commissioners approve final, $417.4 million budget for 2012.

The Montgomery County Commissioners approved a 2012 operating budget Wednesday that will increase the county's average property tax bill by about $80 per year. The $417.4 million budget preserves 2011 funding levels for Montgomery County Community College, the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, and the Elmwood Park Zoo. Each of those institutions had been threatened with severe reductions in county funding in a preliminary budget posted last month. "There's a certain threshold we must maintain in order to provide the services our citizens expect," Commissioner Bruce Castor said. At that rate, the average Montgomery County property tax bill would increase by about $66 per year. The new tax revenue would be complemented by a 5.3 percent cut in general county expenditures and appropriations. Rather than being eliminated, the Parks and Heritage Services …

Residents can expect no new taxes or fees next year./ Also resident brings up storm water management.

In a vote of 5 – 2, the Upper Moreland Board of commissioners passed the 2012 Budget at the Dec. 5 special meeting. The new budget does not increase real estate taxes or other fees for residents. The 2012 budget follows the 13.6-percent tax increase of the 2011 budget. Reading from the budget’s summery, president of the board Sam Valenza stated that the 2012 budget successfully funds all municipal services currently provided to township residents. He said that the new budget proposes township expenditures of $17,432,798, which, according to the budget summery report, is a decrease of $321,904; a 1.8-percent decrease compared to the 2011 budget. According to Valenza, the township’s expenditure reduction is primarily due to a reduction in …
