How Safe is Your Hospital?

The Leapfrog Group, dedicated to hospital transparency, has come out with 'The Hospital Safety Score.' How safe is the hospital you attend?

A national survey on hospital safety may put some incoming patients’ minds at ease – at least in the Montgomery County area. The survey is called the “Hospital Safety Score,” which grades hospitals on an “A, B, C, D or F” system. Each letter reflects patients’ safety in that hospital. “For the first time ever, this score empowers you to make informed decisions about the safety of your hospital care,” reads the Hospital Safety Score website. The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization, founded over a decade ago, administers the Hospital Safety Score. Abington Health System a part of Independence Blue Cross

Independence Blue Cross hospital/physician incentive program has incorporated Abington Health System.

Video: Stroke Drill—From the Milk Aisle to AMH

Abington Memorial Hospital’s stroke team and paramedics from the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad ran a comprehensive stroke drill beginning at O’Neil’s Family Market in Glenside and ending at Abington Memorial Hospital May 31. The Second Alarmers stabilized and evaluated the “patient” using the Diamond Pre-Hospital Stroke Scale, a guide to evaluating the likelihood and intensity of stroke. Then, the squad called in an acute stroke alert to the Emergency Trauma Center at Abington Memorial Hospital. EMTs drew blood for testing and transported the “patient” to the waiting stroke team. super-helpful video, tom and david! great public service. 2yrs ago i had a mini-stroke - manifested by speaking gibberish - took an aspirin and drove myself to abington hospital, 8 minutes away. got excellent care. my symptoms resolved themselves w/ no lasting damage. i was given blood pressure meds cuz we learned my kidneys were failing. i did get a kidney transplant this april which i wrote …   more ›
