UMHS Digital Photo of the Week: Tilt-Shift

Upper Moreland-Willow Grove Patch is proud to present the artwork from Alex Pinguli's Digital Photography class at Upper Moreland High School. This week, the digital photography students present a study in Tilt-Shift.     --- Behind the Assignment - By Alex Pinguli According to Pinguli, this technique, called "Tilt-Shift Photography," had students captured images fom an elevated point of view. Then, using Photoshop, they used selective blur to capture the narrow depth of field, common in macro photography, Pinguli said in a past Photo of the Week article. He added that the colors in the images were enhanced to reinforce the idea of a miniature landscape. " The result from this technique truly turns cars and buildings into small toys," …

When this happens, the background appears not only blurry but light rays break into bright circles. Students began by learning about the difference between wide and narrow depth of field. Upper Moreland-Willow Grove Patch is proud to present the artwork from Alex Pinguli's Digital Photography class at Upper Moreland High School. This week, the students showcase their work on tilt-shift photography. The following students' artwork were selected from three of Pinguli's photography classes:     --- "Tilt-Shift Photography" - by Alex Pinguli: "In this assignment, students learned how to use Photoshop techniques to create the effect of a miniature photo.  To incorporate this effect, called "Tilt-Shift Photography," students began with one of their own images taken outside.  They photographed Upper Moreland High School and its parking lot from an elevated point of view.  Next, they used selective blur to capture the narrow depth …
